St. James to dedicate community labyrinth
Sunday September 26, 2004
St. James Episcopal Church is giving the community a chance to “walk a sacred path.”
At 1:15 p.m. Sunday, the church will be dedicating an outdoor labyrinth, available for community use, which will be built in the open space in the middle of the 2000 block of Seventh Ave.
The Rev. Walt Gordon, pastor of St. James, said those who attend are invited to bring a rock to help build the design. The only limits are that it be no more than 6 inches wide or 10 inches long.
But what is a labyrinth?
The Rev. Lauren Artress, who created one of the first major labyrinths in the United States, describes it as follows: “The labyrinth pattern is an archetypal form found all over the world. It dates back thousands of years.
