More than fifty religious groups in the US- including Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist organizations, have come together insupport of the Federal law protecting the religious rights of American prisoners. The four year old law requiring prisons to accommodate the religious practices of inmates has been invalidated by the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals on grounds it violates the First Amendment after several prisoners of minority faiths sought relief under the law. The case is under appeal.
