Backwards masking, Satanism in France, Imax and the Creationists
Wednesday March 23, 2005
One of the weirder aspects of the 'Satanic Panic' of the eighties was the weird obsession with 'backwards masking,' where excited evangelicals would insist that satanic messages were cleverly encoded into rock music- so cleverly, in fact, that one could only hear them by playing the records backward.
Meanwhile, the French are noticing with some alarm that Satanic dabbling among teens appears to be on the rise. (The classification of Satanism in this instance includes vampirism, heavy metal, 'deviant sex,' cemetery vandalism, and the kitchen sink)
Not enough religious lunacy? Here's more: seems creationists are attacking IMAX films for assuming the fact of evolution. Did I ever mention how grateful I am not to live in the South?
