Head Start Sunday School, Hindus back Wiccan, Scientology & Kate Moss
Friday September 23, 2005
Is Head Start program being turned into a government funded Sunday school? In a completely unconstitutional move, House republicans yesterday decided it was perfectly fine for head start teachers to practice preferential hiring in regards to religion. The bill will allow churches running Head Start programs to discriminate on the basis of religion without risking federal cash.
In other First Amendment news, the Hindu American Foundation has filed an amicus curiae brief with the Supreme Court in support of Cynthia Simpson, the Wiccan Priestess who is suing to be allowed to make invocations at Board of Supervisors meetings in her county.
We have two more witch-hunt victims today: One woman dead and one hospitalized in India after severe beatings, and in a twist, a Nigerian man lynched after being caught in the act of murdering a woman, ostensibly to collect body parts foir use in black magic.
On a lighter note, Scientologists have offered to rescue Kate Moss from her career-wrecking cocaine habit. Will she be swapping coke for niacin?
