Walmart's Witch Books, Witch Hunts, Peyote, Ayahuasca

Friday November 4, 2005

The "My god or else" crowd has an unlikely new target. Walmart, which is ordinarily so conservative that it bans books with great regularity (John Stewart's America, the diaries of Kurt Cobain, etc.). This time, the shrieking is over the selling of Wicca related books. (Hysterically funny religious screed)

Over a dozen members of an African mob have been arrested after attempting to stone an elderly woman for witchcraft. The angry crowd also lobbed a few rocks at police.

It took the government years and a scad of cash to figure out what users already knew: Peyote doesn't 'rot your brain' after all. With the recent revelations about marijuana and brain cells, it looks like they might have to retire that frying pan. In a related story, the Supreme Court will be debating the legal status of Ayahuasca.

Yet another reason fundamentalism is wrong. (and they have the nerve to call themselves Christians)

Weird: "Voodoo Doll" left for artist
