"To the memory of the God, Jesus Christ"
Tuesday November 8, 2005
Israel's earliest known Christian Church has been discovered buried inside the walls of Israel's Meiggiddo prison (of all places). is the subject of much excitement this week. The inscription above appears on the dedication, one of several unusual features of the church. Along with the unusual inscription, the central decorative element of the church is a pisces symbol (not unusual- many early churches are decorated with astrological symbolism). Additionally, there is no altar, or any other feature one would recognize...rather than an altar, these early worshippers shared a humble table. And (Southern Baptists pay attention here) this church was built by a woman.
