Zoroaster

Monday December 26, 2005
Yesterday, one of the largest faith groups in the world celebrated the birth of their savior. Today, one of the smallest groups comemorates the death of their prophet./savior. Today is Zarathosht Diso, anniversary of the death of the Prophet Zoroaster (Zarathustra), who founded Zoroastrianism, the oldest living montheistic religion. Zoroastrianism began some 3500 years ago, and was the grandparent of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Zoroastrianism was conceived by the prophet after a long sojourn in the desert. Zoroaster preached a single, omnipotent god of light, the opponent of the forces of darkness. He taught that a savior would be born to aid mankind in overcoming evil, that the righteous would attain heaven while sinners burned in hell, and that all would be decided in a final, apocalyptic battle between good and evil.
