Candelaria, Communion Snacks, Holy Cows, Pope Joan
Saturday December 31, 2005
The last day of year is host to a number of religious festivals. One of the more beautiful is the Candelaria of Brazil, where followers of the Candomble religion light candles and lanterns on the beach at midnight in honor of Yemaya, the Orixa of the Ocean.
Do you go to church just for the communion wafers? Catholics in Quebec who can't wait for Sunday don't have to- they can run over to the supermarket and buy a bag of "Host Pieces."
A Krishna couple in Buffalo is fighting to keep their sacred cows. (who are, in this case, actually cows)

Surprisingly, this doesn't surprise me at all: Woman marries dolphin
You can read the result of ABC's Pope Joan article here.
For the record, I think they did a decent job. (I only winced a couple of times- once, when they suggested one could pick up a Sforza Tarot in a 'dusty bookshop.' Yikes.)
