The Gospel of Mary Magdalen

Thursday April 13, 2006

All the attention paid to the Gospel of Judas is making people take notice of the plethora of Gnostic gospels discovered in the last century. I predict that we'll be hearing a lot more in public circles about the Gospel of Mary Magdalen. (Read the Text: Gospel of Mary Magdalen More: Gnostic Texts)

Here's a bit of sad news- a Dead Sea scholar rescues several pages of ancient text from an uncertain fate, records them, publishes them, and turns them over to the state- which promptly arrests him. The idea behind this insanity, apparently, is to prevent looting by starving the looters. The reality, of course, is that the looting will continue, but only wealthy collectors willing to deal with shady people will ever see these treasures of antiquity. (or worse, they will disintegrate in silence like the Judas gospel nearly did!)
