Ridvan
Thursday April 20, 2006
Today marks the beginning of the twelve day Baha'i festival of Ridvan (pronounced riz-vohn), the most important festival in the Baha'i faith. The festival comemmorates the founding of the Baha'i faith by the Prophet Baha'u'llah. The twelve days correspond to the twelve days the Prophet spent in prayer with his followers in the Najibiyyih Garden (Ridvan Garden) near Baghdad. On the first, ninth, and twelfth days, worshippers suspend work and participate in worship and fellowship services.
