Burning Green Man?

Thursday November 16, 2006
Next year's Burning Man festival art theme is a given, even if it is a few years late: the Green Man. (Via)

Pagans in the news

The tragic death of a Druid is news in the UK.

Speaking of Druids, the Priestess who was unceremoniously stripped (no pun intended) of her ritual knife and threatened with prosecution has been exonerated, and her athame returned.

It's not often a Pagan Charity is recognized publicly for their work, so it's nice to see the Avebury Guardians rewarded for their work in educating the public about the Avebury stones. (More about Avebury pagans)

Haustblot in Iceland.

Here's something unusual: a profile of a pagan priest. I can't recall the last time I saw a male pagan profiled on his own.

Weird

A small village in India is awash in tourists after the birth of a baby believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Durga because tumors on the baby's torso resemble extra arms. A three headed calf is a sensation in Uttar Pradesh for similar reasons.

Witch Hunts

Local objections to the prosecution of a Cayman woman being prosecuted for practicing Obeah (African witchcraft.)

A high school teacher decides his charges are better served by lectures on hell than history lessons, and when confronted with the evidence after lying about it, he accuses the complaining student of atheism.

In Germany, home schooling your children is a crime.

A Utah judge is in trouble for making anti-LDS remarks and demanding that parents not baptize their child until she is twelve.

An appropriate curse?

An Indonesian magician uses broccoli to hex President Bush.

A bit late

The Denver Post looks at the Da Vinci Code, Magdalene, and the Gnostics. Better late than never, I guess.

Rasta in Jamaica

Rasta converts in Jamaica explain their religion.

Talking Jesus greenlighted

Sadly, Toys for tots has flip-flopped on their refusal to accept a donation of talking Jesus dolls, which I can't imagine even the most pious of Christian children wanting inn their stockings.
