Undercover Scientology, Part Seventy-two
Tuesday February 20, 2007
The New York Inquirer hits on a unique overused idea for an expose story- go "undercover" at the Church of Scientology, and reveal all of the shameful ways Scientologists promote their religion (Clearly, they're expected to be ashamed of themselves!) It comes complete with all the cliches of undercover Scientology stories: glassy eyes and over-enthusiastic smiles (what did they expect, scowls?), gleeful recounting of 'tricking' the e-meter with false tales of woe, snarky comments about Xenu, and members oh so unhappy when the reporters, invariably broke, pass on the actual Dianetics. In fact, it's all so familiar, you can read about it here: Undercover Scientology. (One re-run deserves another, no?)

Let’s hear it for creativity!
Apparently Scientology sells, both copies of Dianetics and the NY Inquirer.
Nicely put, Jennifer.
Something we haven’t seen much of, it a reporter coming to a Scientology organization with honesty and in a forthright manner, and asking questions NOT about the tired, rehashed myths and legends, but about the philosophy, the methodology, the “what and how” of the thing.
best,

I’m glad to hear that others are as sick and tired of the wannabe “exposes” that basically say “Tee hee, we went to a Scientology church and they were really weird, giggle giggle! We really had fun messing with them by saying ‘Hail Xenu’, hyuk hyuk hyuk!”.
What’s next for these “journalists”? Barging into a Catholic church and asking rude and condescending questions like “Hey, why does the Pope wear a funny hat? ha ha ha! Can we have some of those crackers you give out at Mass?”
