Bush Snubs Wiccan War Widow
Wednesday August 29, 2007
This is hardly surprising, but it does seem remarkably cruel even for Bush- after visiting an American legion event in Reno, President Bush met with the families of Nevada soldiers killed in combat, with one glaring exception. Not inviited was widow Roberta Stewart, who successfully fought for her husband to receive a Wiccan emblem on his tomb. Not only was she not invited, it seems he went out of his way to make a point by inviting other relatives of her husband, and the wife of another Guardsman who was killed in the same incident as Sgt. Stewart. Ms. Stewart seems to have been callously singled out for exclusion solely on the basis of her faith and her efforts to honor her husband.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Male (far from being a man) is a prime example of today’s pretend Christian. No compassion, no love, no idea of the teachings of the Christ; he worships money, power, and himself. May we, the thinking people of the world, surround this woman with love and compassion. May the people of this country soon realize they are the government and these sicko’s are just shadows of mankind. Mrs. Stewert’s husband did something that “W” could not imagine, he stood up proudly and accepted responsibility for something, that though he did not create it, felt he needed to do what he could to turn it around. I offer my sympathy to this family, especially his brave widow. Blessed Be.
That’s our government for ya’! Willing to make veterans,–dead, disabled, or otherwise–and it hasn’t the compassion to consider not everyone accepts the Church of Bush’s religion and its fables. They worship at the foot of a monstrous memorial to crucifixian, but refuse to accept an emblem of ‘woman’ to be placed upon a headstone or other marker. Then they snub the widow of the deceased veteran.
This country needs an enema, vote Libertarian!
The Government is now saying this was an “unfortunate oversight”. I don’t buy it and neither does the AU. You don’t just “overlook” the widow.
I’d say Bush once again proved just what an ass he is and just how little he really cares.
Regardless of religious background, if you died for our country you should be recognized. Few people would what they did. Bush should apologize for his action. Wicca is a belief that has not gotten its rightful recognition as others have.
Not surprising. The man is not Christian by anyone’s definition…except perhaps his own.Given his personality he sees all conflicts as a battle of wills - and he is not a gracious looser. His administration even makes fun of fundamentalists in private, then uses their contributions to further the white house agenda. Shrub reminds me of an old joke. Dubya dies, goes to heaven and on arriving god asks him to prepare lunch. He makes two sandwiches, and god remarks that it is small fare for so many in heaven. Bush stares at god a moment and then says “You mean there’s more than the two of us up here?”
To give the devil his due, Bush did call Mrs. Stewart and apologize to her. Barry Lynn, director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, an organization I recommend to all of you, issued press releases both at the time of the original snub and after Bush apologized.
I think that Bush is the worst President ever, and think the snub was deliberate, but at least he did apologize.
What do you expect? It’s Bush…give him enough rope and he’ll hang himself. YAY.
This president is the most horrible example of a leader I can imagine. He is such an arrogant, uncaring, unfeeling, self serving person. He deserves no extra acknowledgement after he is out of office. No matter what the religion, the man served his country and deserves to be honored as the others were, his wife should have been there. May the Goddess/God bless us with a leader who truly believes in liberty and loves his or her country and the citizens they serve.
If you give your life for your country, or for the values your country stands for, you deserve r-e-s-p-e-c-t !
What would Jesus have done in the presidents place? I’m convinced He would have invited the widow and comforted her. That is the Love real christianity stands for.
I think it is wrong to judge people when we don’t have all the facts. I don’t know if Bush personally makes the list of who is to be invited. I think he may have people do that for him. He probably said something like “Let’s invite the families of the Nevada soldiers killed in combat.” Then whoever had that responsibility to do that did it.
He did the right thing by calling her up and apologizing to her. Maybe he could invite her to the White House for a more personal apology sometime?
I must agree with the others. This is an unacceptable oversite on Bush’s part. His staff must have known about this womans efforts. That’s their job! Trust me, he knew.
Counting the days to 20 January, 2009.
The “oversight” will be seen as intentional, whether it was or not. And, if this is how you stand for Christianity - and so many christians do - then you may want to grab your bible and start praying for forgiveness… It is not ours to judge others, it is not ours to condemn.
Roberta, There is a Power much greater in this Universe than any “man-made-power”. Knowing that you are a part of the ONE, Blessed Be to you and your family. May the Source be with you always.
I don’t believe it. I don’t believe that it was a deliberate snub. Politicians generally can’t afford that kind of thing, for one, especially a politician who is trying to keep up support for a difficult war. I will believe that his staff flubbed up, and hopefully some heads rolled because of it.
