First Official "Holiday Pentacle?" (Nope)
Wednesday November 28, 2007
This one's a great story, and even better, it's happening in my tiny* hometown of Olean, New York. Now, I haven't actually been in Olean for something like twenty years, but I remember it as a fairly conservative Catholic enclave, so I find this quite encouraging- Olean will be home to the first official municipal display of a holiday pentacle. Strangely, it seems the pentacle has gotten its home because a local official is reluctant to move a nativity scene already displayed on the property.

On the one hand, I’d want to put the pentacle next to the nativity scene just to prove a point. On the other hand, that isn’t what either religion is *supposed* to be about. Plus, the point of separation between church and state means *any* church/religion.
Still, would be nice to see the reaction to a government-sanctioned holiday display!
Actually, the pentacle was put up and someone rudely backed their black for pickup truck into it at 10:10 this evening.
