The Fiction of the Necronomicon

The Necronomicon is one of the most well known grimoires in the world.  It's continued popularity fuels the impression that this is a real, archaic document.  In truth, there is no evidence of it existing before horror writer HP Lovecraft first mentioned it in his stories in the early 20th century.
