Pagan rituals on Web site rile Episcopalians

Monday November 1, 2004

Some Episcopalians are offended this week over a posting of Druidic rituals posted to the Church's official website. This isn't the first sign I've seen of positive ecumenism in this church- I remember a newsletter some years back promoting a "Goddess circle" that drew some fire.

More about Druidry

It seems that not everyone is a fan of the Da Vinci Code- notably, citizens of Rennes-le Chateau, the tiny village in France reputed to be the last repository of the secrets of the templars, home to the body of Christ, the location of a vast Cathar treasure trove, and even the Holy Grail.

Apparently the town is a bit divided- on one hand, the hordes of tourists are good for the economy. On the other, the desecration of cemeteries and midnight escapades involving dynamite are discomfiting to residents.
To this day, all anyone knows is that something weird was going on, and one off the wall priest suddenly and mysteriously became fabulously wealthy. Of course, when he went, he failed to do the courtesy of revealing just how that came to be, and thus one of the world's most bizarre conspiracy cottage industries was born.

In the latest chapter of Harry Potter harum scarum, a student in South Africa has refused to answer an exam question about Harry Potter, citing witchcraft fears as his excuse.
