Leonardo's Birthday

Tuesday April 15, 2008
Today is Leonardo Da Vinci's birthday, or would be if he were here to celebrate one.

It's only taken five hundred odd years now to figure out how he painted his masterpieces.

Better, London's Victoria and Albert Museum opens an enourmous exhibit, including Leo's scientific notes.

    The Mona Lisa Rebis

A Rebis (from res bina, ‘two-fold’ ) is an image of the alchemical Hermaphrodite, the perfected union of two spiritual polarities. Renaissance artists such as Leonardo were quite fond of depicting this image in their works. Click the rebis above to learn more, or here to see a traditional alchemical rebis drawing.
