Bewitched or bewildered? (and other complaints)
Wednesday June 15, 2005
Three hundred years ago, innocents accused of witchcraft. Today, their deaths will be commemorated by the tackiest of memorials- a nine foot tall bronze statue of Samantha the witch. TVLand, the cable channel sponsoring the monstrosity, has invited a few Wiccans to the event, which I'm guessing makes the trivialization of horrific acts of violence acceptable. (Need I say..not!)
Another "I'm not a Satanist" routine. Sigh. Also, could we please have a moratorium on complaints about "The Craft" already? Not only do I have a strong suspicion that this awful movie sold most of its tickets to hopeful Wiccans, but does anyone seriously believe that people form their ideas about religious groups from movies about teenagers who levitate? (I also find it somewhat ironic that at the same time they complain that people get their ideas about their relgion from suspect sources, they personally choose to hide their beliefs from the general public, which seems to me a surefire way to make people suspect you're up to no good.)
A Japanese company finally figured out that a chimp dressed as a Rastafarian might be a tad insensitive.
