Witch Hunts Near and Far

Friday September 9, 2005

Another Indian villager has fallen victim to witch hunting mobs- a farmer was brutally killed by a mob who felt he was responsible for a spate of illnesses in their village. About 200 people are murdered as witches every year in India.

In America, the witch hunts are tamer, but still rankle. Christians in Rama, Colorado, are furious over a planned Pagan event, and seeking desperately to prevent the gathering, which will take place in a private rental hall. Accusations include old standbys like animal sacrifice and other bugbears, and the protesters have gone as far as convincing the town board to hold meetings on the contested event.
