Guru Nanak Jayanti

Thursday November 15, 2007

Today is one of the most important holy days in the Sikhism, the birthday (jayanti) of Guru Nanak, the founder of the faith. Celbration begins three days before with the intiation of an akhand path, or three day reading of the Guru Granth Sahib. Tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world will be celebrating at Nankana Sahib Gurudwara in Pakistan, the birthplace of the Guru.

I didn’t realize that Guru Nanak had experienced his revelation while bathing in a river. That’s very interesting Cleansing and Purification symbolism, to say the least!

So, too, are the three days of visions and the re-emergence.

I wrote an article about the possible connection of spiritual three’s to astronomical events, especially as the number three applies to resurrection and rebirth, and the connection of that to the three days of the New Moon.

I am glad to see another tradition that fits the pattern. Thanks for an interesting and informative article. :-)
