Voodoo Chickens, Asatru in Prison, Joan of Arc's Rib
Wednesday February 15, 2006
A Georgia bill ostensibly aimed at preventing bird flu would ban the sale of live poultry for use in religious rituals. Animal sacrifice is an integral part of Santeria and Vodoun. Of course, the bill will not prevent commercial slaughterhouses from killing chickens. (As long as they don't say a prayer first, I assume.) of course, Rep. Tom McCall betrays his real intent when he refers to the religious practice as "a problem in New York."
A prison inmate in Arizona describes the positive impact of his Asatru faith on his life.
Scientists in France will test relic sclaimed to be the remains of Joan of Arc. DNA and carbon dating will determine if the bones indeed belong to a female and whether they date to the correct time period. What they will then do with this information is a mystery.
