Blame it on Botticelli

Friday March 17, 2006

Remember the "subliminal messages" craze? Well, it's back, with a bizarre anti-catholic twist. A bizarre new movie seeks to blame the Catholic Church's child abuse scandals on satanic subliminal messages hidden in religious art. The charmingly titled "Rape of the Soul" accuses everyone from medieval illuminators to Botticelli of sneaking demonic faces, aborted fetuses, and reference to '666' into their art. Unlike most of the insane fundamentalist conspiracy stuff out there, this movie is accompanied by a slick PR campaign. What's most frightening is that their panel of crackpots "experts" includes folks we've trusted with our tax money. (Yikes) Be sure not to miss the hilariously creepy trailer. The movie is produced by Silver Sword International, which "merges media with morality." yeah.
