Alternative Jesus, Rahabilitating the Devil
Wednesday April 12, 2006
The newly revised story of Judas appears to have opened the floodgates, both on alternative histories of Jesus and on rehabilitating historic villains. First, historian James Tabor, in his book The Jesus Dynasty, advances his own version of the biography of Jesus, portraying him as a revolutionary royal seeking to establish himself as King of the Hebrews. Of course, although the media seems to have no clue, this is not exactly a new idea, although what Tabor does have is definitely startling- a tomb he claims holds the family of Jesus. Of course, retelling the tale of Jesus is nothing compared to the project undertaken by Professor Henry Kelly, who acts as a true Devil's advocate, hoping to restore the reputation of the Dark Prince himself, from God's enemy to the faithful servant he was before a few hundred years of clerical slander wrecked his reputation and made him respnsible for the gamut of human misbehavior.
