Vaisakhi, Sommarsblot, Liberalia
Sunday April 13, 2008
A number of religious holidays are observed today. The best known is Vaisakhi, celebrating the founding of the Sikh Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. The pre-existing Punjabi New Year is now synonymous with the Sikh celebration. It was at this time that initiated Sikh began adopting the khalsa dress rituals.
Today is also the Asatru festival of Sommarsblot, a feast to welcome the coming of summer.
The ancient Romans celebrated the feast of Liberalia, a new year festival honoring the The vegetation God Liber, and his consort, the Goddess of Liberty, an equivalent of the Greek Bacchanalia. It was at this time that boys who had come of age assumed adult responsibilities. This festival is also observed by adherents of Religio Romana.
And of course, it is Passover.

Comments
Just a nit-pick; Bacchanalia was the Roman holiday of the God Bacchus, who was the Roman equivalent of the Greek Dionysios.
Absolutely…i plead a brain fart.
um, no offense, but this year Passover began at sundown on Apr. 19.
