Judas Scholar Blasts "Intellectual Laziness," Q Document

Tuesday April 25, 2006

Judging by the reaction of most Church leaders to the Gospel of Judas, it would seem that for most, it can't go away quickly enough, with public statements ranging from contempt (It's the "Weekly World News," folks- nothing to get excited about!) to dismissal as "revision" of the "true" gospels.

In this brief interview,Rodolphe Kasser, the scholar who translated the rediscovered Gospel, is critical of the "intellectually lazy" way the Church has rejected the document as the product of an irrelevant 'fringe.'

On a related note, the Atlantic has an interesting read this week on another text that makes Churchmen itchy around the collar: The "Q" document: The Search for a No-Frills Jesus (See also: Thomas and Q)
