Allah's Egg, The Jewish Goddess, Fasting for Bush, Attacking Gnosticism (and Howard Dean)

Friday May 5, 2006
Allah is apparently a bit jealous of Jesus' frequent appearances in snack foods and dirty dishes, and is making some appearances of his own- although he is apparently much more modest, preferring to leave his signature rather than his face. This time, in a hideously wrinkled egg. (Seems to me he might choose a better example of his work to put his name to?)

Renew America has posted a strange and (needless to say) inaccurate attack on The Da Vinci Code and Gnosticism, which it links with (of all things) liberal politics, Schopenhauer, and Virginia Woolf. I've seen some strange claims before, but Howard Dean as Gnostic Messiah? Please. Includes the usual incoherent ranting about relativism, Hollywood, and the importance of accepting the truth as told to you. Funniest claim: women read the Code to feel spiritually superior, men read it to get laid.

Meanwhile, Catholic groups in New York have decided not to wait for the film's debut, and have begun their protests early. Quote: "Hollywood has no right to defame the adorable Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” The group of the professionally offended dubs itself the "American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property" A Christian group wants to make sure George Bush "remains holy," by pledging to fast one day a month- God's very own idea, according to the webmaster. The effort is billed as 'nonpartisan' and claims thousands of participants.

A police chaplain describes some of the religious customs police may encounter in the course of investigations, and how to prevent misunderstandings.
