The Devil's Fork, Satanic Panic in Indonesia, Voodoo Soccer Fears, Obeah in Jamaica

Wednesday May 10, 2006
Who'd have thought the history of the common table fork was fraught with satanic intrigue?

Rumors of a "World Congress" of the Church of Satan are upsetting many paranoid applecarts in Indonesia, especially considering how unlikely it would be for a Church with most of its membership based in the US to meet in a country so well-known for its religious intolerance. (This is, after all, a country where most teens will not be allowed to view the Da Vinci Code)

A similarly weird article details the Iranian Football Federation's fears that "Mexican Voodoo" will hurt their players during World Cup matches in Germany.

Meanwhile, practitioners of Obeah in Jamaica are defying a centuries-old ban on their practice to come out into the open.

And yet another reporter finds an 'expert' who supplies the necessary 'fact' that fall is the time of year that Pagans steal small animals and consecrated hosts...for their black masses, you know. Mind-boggling, that is.

Would the man whose religious beliefs led him to to torch an adult bookstore be labeled a terrorist if he weren't Christian? I wonder.
