Religious Discrimination Miscellany, Scientology Enters NASCAR, Hospital Shamans

Tuesday June 6, 2006
Christian evangelists are being hassled by the Feds over religious tracts designed to look like "million dollar bills."

Why separation of church and state is not just a good idea, but a necessary freedom: Saudi Arabian textbooks.

When not disparaging other religions, Saudi officials are putting together a real, live witch-hunt- the "Authority for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice" who recently apprehended a "flying sorceress" will set up offices in cities where citizens can denounce their locl witches and psychics.

Two women in a remote village in India infuriated local Hindus by converting to Christianity. The punishement for such a crime? Rape. Miami neighborhoods receive much-needed education about Santeria and its practices.

More on the "666" phenomenon.

The Church has found another movie it doesn't like- the "Omen" remake.

Hmong Shamans mingle with medical professionals in California hospitals.

Scientology will sponsor its own NASCAR team...I'm guessing we won't be seeing "Viagra" ads on that car.

Christianity Today throws itself behind Roberta Stewart's efforts to get her husband a Wiccan memorial marker.

(1) Stardust says:

I cannot understand what there is in the message of Christ that leads Christians to feel they can condemn, criticize, and be generally bigoted against any and everything. They are becoming their own worst enemy…driving people away with their closed minds, critical and condeming ways. Oh, now I see, soon the churches will be filled with the mean-spirited, egotistical, condemning bigoted people who are the most in need of preaching. Too bad the preachers are the worst of the lot.

I especially liked that last bit of news, how a magazine by, about, and for Christians is backing a Wiccan widow. It’s a very nice thing to read.

(3) Harrell Rhome, Ph.D. says:

All the hype about 666 is just that — hype. First of all, 6/6/2006 does not numerologically equal 666. Secondly, several old manuscripts of Revelation give the number as 616.

Keep up the good work! I love alternate religions newsletter.
