Scientiologists Fight Blood Tests, Pope Vs. Alternative Religions, Jews Vs. The Kabbalah Centre, God Gene

A pair of Scientologists are going to court, hoping to bypass a law requiring blood tests for infants, which they argue conflicts with the practice of maintaining a calm and silent environment for a newborn.

The Catholic University of St. Thomas Aquinas has instituted a brand new Chair, of "Religions and Non-conventional Spiritualities," which sounds hopeful, but is in fact designed to aid the Vatican in fighting off Alternative religions, esoterica, magic, and other perceived "enemies of truth and goodness."

Jewish anti-missionaries are devout, usually Orthodox Jews who make their own mission to counter religious missionaries (usually evangelical Christian) who make Jewish communities the target of aggressive conversion campaigns. One such anti-missionary group, Jews for Judaism, has a new target: mass market Kabbalah.

Finally, more evidence that the universe does indeed have a sense of humor: religious belief may have a genetic origin
