Anti-Pagan Bigotry in Greece, Native Americans Stymied by Fire Bans, Sensationalism Trumps Responsible Repoorting, La Milagrosa
Colorado's Native Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to practice traditional religious ceremonies, coming up against fire bans and petty beaurecrats that can't (or won't) differentiate between sacred ceremonies and camp weenie-roasts.
The newest celebrity-religion media frenzy centers around Jennifer Lopez, and her Ex's "accusations" that she is involved in the Santeria religon- if they could only figure out what exactly that is. According to the gossip reporters, Santeria is variably "Voodoo," Brujeria, trance chanting, or bizarrely, the "Black Arts of witchcraft."
Reporters are also having difficulty with a sensational UK murder mystery, that of Peter Solheim, a minor political figure brutally killed by a jealous lover. The media seems more fascinated with Solheim's religious activity than with the sad circumstance of his death, but can't seem to figure out whether he was a Druid, a Wiccan, a Satanist, or a follower of Norse Paganism, and so they have apparently decided he was all four. The truth was probably much more mundane, but the added sensationalism is probably more than any reporter can resist.
Of course, when reporters tackle an unusual religious topic and get it right, everyone wins- witness the Toronto Star's treatment of Cuba's devotion to "la Milagrosa".

This may very well explain Ms. Lopez’ meteoric rise to stardom in the absence of any sort of extraordinary talent.
You might be right, I hadn’t thought of that. LOL
