Mad for Moon, Cruise, Court Bias, Corryvreckan whirlpool, Da Vinci Vandals, More Ebay Jesus

Friday August 25, 2006
Members of Reverend Moon's Unification Church unhappy with negative press coverage stormed the offices of a Seoul newspaper, breaking windows and staging a 700-person sit in. That should get them some positive publicity...

Was firing Tom Cruise an act of bigotry against Scientology? (And why is it that so many religious minorities, when faced with criticism, fall back on the "at least we aren't responsible for the Inquisition" line?)

London has a new police officer assigned to root out witchcraft-related child abuse. I'm guessing (hoping) they mean the opposite, given that most cases I can recall in recent years involve children accused of witchcraft by religious relatives.

Findlaw finds hypocrisy- and a wee bit of pro-Christian bias- in decisions handed down by the Fourth Circuit.

Is the Corryvreckan whirlpool the original "Cauldron of Cerridwen?" It's an amazing sight, for sure.

Does the critical rejection of the schlocky "Expected One" signal the end of Da Vinci Code mania? If not, idiots like the two 'mystery hunters' who wrecked a Medieval Church looking for "secrets" behind its masonry will surely do the trick.

The devil is a less frequent visitor to common objects, so I was a little surprised that a "devil's head penny" sold for less than two hundred dollars. Of course, could be that the daily Jesus and Mary sellathon on Ebay is simply winding down. I guess we'll know for sure when the results of the inevitable sale of the "miraculous" crucifixion MRI are in. This of course begs the question- if God grants one a miracle (or if you believe so), what does that make the person who auctions it off like a common novelty?
