Miracle's unlikely exit

Monday December 4, 2006
Two years after the untimely death of popular tourist attraction/religious icon Miracle the white buffalo calf at Heider farm in Janesville, Wisconsin, the farm became host to yet another rare white buffalo calf, who was christened Miracle's second chance. (This calf was actually the Heider's third white calf- a second was born and died within days) The farm has been a constant attraction since the birth of the first calf, as white buffalo are sacred to a number of Native american tribes (and, it would seem, a number of New Age tribes as well)

The new buffalo's owner was reported to have remarked, "How many times in a lifetime does lighting strike?''

These turned out to be prophetic words, as the second Miracle barely lasted three months before he was struck by lightning, which makes me wonder if the white calf was less a miracle than a great cosmic laugh at someone's expense?

“It was kind of shocking, actually.” This is the poetry of life.
