Hypocrisy in Action (Be careful what you wish for)

Friday December 8, 2006
This week's entry in the "War on Christmas" is a classic display of almost instant karma. You may remember the furor generated earlier this year when a Virginia elementary school, citing district policy, opted not to distribute flyers advertising religious events-in this case, a flyer for an evangelical bible camp. Activists swung into action, and Jerry Falwell's Liberty Council stepped in and reminded the Board that it could not cherry-pick which community announcements to distribute- it had to be all, or none. The Board backed down, changed their policy, and church flyers flowed- that is, until one of those church flyers went out advertising informational classes on Muslim, Jewish, and Pagan winter holidays. The "War on Christmas" torch was taken up almost immediately by the exact same people who cried 'religious discrimination' when religious flyers were banned. Worse, the coverage of the story is downright disingenuous-one might even get the impression that the school board is intentionally promoting Paganism while simultaneously banning evangelicals- and I'm sure that's exactly what they want their readers to believe. So, rather than learning an important lesson about why Separation of Church and State benefit us all, they've chosen to frame it once more as persecution.

When are we going to stop trying to be so politically correct. Not everyone will EVER be totally happy with what is celebrated. I say, if you don’t like it, don’t participate.
