Friday links: Witch Hunts & Satanic Scares
The "Satanic abuse" case that set off the re-investigation and probable railroading of Father Gerald Robinson has been (ironically) dismissed.
UK citizens are angry that a man falsely accused of murder may receive more compensation than the vcictim's family. Colin Stagg was accused after a search of his apartment revealed occult books. Stagg was harassed, charged with murder, and imprisoned for a year, and police even went so far as to try to seduce a confession from him. It didn't work, and fifteen years later, a new suspect has emerged- but Colin's life is still ruined.
Is "The Craft" responsible for Satanic teenagers running amok in India? (Most likely not, but it's a strange story anyways).
Of course, all of these things seem perfectly civilized in comparison with this year's already astonishing rate of witch killings and harassment- not three weeks into the year, we have three women lynched in East Timor, and a woman beaten to death in (where else?) Jharkhand, India.
