Fraudster Dale Griffis Retires

Monday March 12, 2007
Ohio's Advertiser Tribune carries a complimentary bio piece on a notorious local, the self-aggrandizing "occult expert" Dale Griffis, wherein they describe Griffis' career as a trial consultant, talk-show regular, and all-around go-to 'cult cop.' The truth about Griffis is about as far from the affable, streetwise "cop who has seen everything" portrayed in this story.

In reality, Griffis is one of a particularly vile species, one of numerous men and women who, largely through deceit and forged credentials, made minor celebrities of themselves by fueling Satanic Panic fears.

Griffis' career should never have gotten off the ground. Griffis was a wannabe who parlayed a diploma mill degree* into a stint as a courtroom "occult ritual expert" in the trial of Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin. Griffis' testimony in the trial consisted of rumor, innuendo, and urban legends lifted from evangelical Christian scare-literature- and, in the absence of any other evidence, aided in the conviction of three outcast teens who are almost certainly innocent.** Memorable moments in Griffis' expert turn included claims that "witches" and other occultists drink and bathe in blood, that Satanic ritual killings were commonplace (they're nonexistant), that every wound on a victim was a deliberately symbolic act.

Griffis followed up this performance by going on the lecture circuit, conducting seminars for law enforcement on the supposedly widespread satanic cult conspiracy that was supposedly responsible for thousands upon thousands of secretive human sacrifices, child pornography, and Dungeons and Dragons. It's so pathetic that it might be funny- except that Griffis is directly responsible for at least two convictions, including one which resulted in the application of the death penalty.

Other of Griffiths exploits include convincing an Ohio Deputy Sheriff to dig fruitlessly for the bodies of dozens of sacrifice victims supposedly buried in rural Ohio, all on the testimony of a mental patient who claimed to be a member of a satanic cult, and the discovery of such chilling artifacts as a headless doll and a red string dangling from a tree (?!). When Griffis got bored with Satanism, he penned fantastic tales of children hypnotized by the government to become mind-controlled assasins.

In short, Griffis' retirement is reason for celebration, but for altogether different reasons- finally, he manages to get a real menace off the streets.

** Did I say almost? At this point, I am absolutely certain that the three boys convicted of this crime had nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Did his book “Secret Weapons” come out before or after he read the manga “Gunslinger Girl?”

Wow! Excellent counter-bio. Anyone interest in following up and doing what you can (even if that’s “only” raising awareness) for the West Memphis Three (victims of Griffis), please check out www.wm3.org

Excellent sketch of this idiot. It’s so depressing to see mock-experts used in serious criminal cases to hurt innocent people (like Echols et al.) Griffis should be jailed as a menace.

you idiots have never had to deal with anything as we in the real criminal justice world if you are such great experts then you try and prevent some of the murders and copycat killers, duh how do you think the victims families feel about people like you compared to real hereos like us and Mr. Griffis.

The only thing idiots like Griffis have done is to stymie and pervert the cause of justice. I have on numerous occasions assisted police departments with real, verifiable facts. One can imagine all the fantasy one wants, but to put it forward as fact, and to cause others to act on false information, is in itself a crime against humanity, and people like Griffis are criminals as well.

The victims’ families are best served by real justice. instead, there are new victims’ families created by false convictions aided by hysteria and fraud peddlars.

Yes, the wm3 are innocent and we all know that now. Yes, Griffis sounds like a fool. A fool who was doing poor work on real stuff doesn’t discredit the existence of the real stuff.

Satanic ritual abuse is proven again and again with successful convictions.

And if you think government research into the creation of the Manchurian Candidate didn’t happen, you are 100% wrong. It’s not a fantastic tale or a conspiracy. It is a strange truth that is extensively and objectively documented in the words of declassified CIA documents and the reputable bios of some of the researchers involved.
