Which is the Cult?

Monday April 2, 2007
Last Sunday, thousands of Utahns awoke to find slickly packaged DVDs sporting the likeness of LDS Church founder Joseph Smith had been surreptituously placed on their doorsteps. While many assumed these were just more material put out by the Church itself, which just wrapped up a big Joseph Smith bicentennial. But no, this was not that sort of cheery propanganda- this was a large-scale, big budget effort from a group of non-Mormon evangelicals to "save" Mormons by telling them everything they believe is wrong, and that their leader isn't just wrong, but violent, insane, and worse (A Freemason!), and that their religion is (gasp) a cult.

Oddly, they play a game of "Liar, madman, or Prophet,*" and conclude that Jospeh Smith is both of the former. This is bizarre, given that we can safely assume those qualities in other prophets (David, Moses, anyone) don't faze the documentarians, even as they appear to believe pointing out Smith's foibles is a sure-fire way to get Mormons to abandon their church.

You can watch the atrocity here: Mormonism research ministry *Versions of which are used to validate the claims of believers that Jesus was God, Mohammed was a Prophet of God, etc.

I find it funny how people use GOD to control other people. I have being in several religions and find that the power that the leaders have are amazing. You would think they know better. Before my father passed 24 years ago he told me never let anything control you and place you faith in GOD. No man is above GOD.
