Altered Consciousness Not Welcome in the US

Monday April 23, 2007
Andrew Feldmar is a popular psycgotherapist who resides in Vancouver, Canada, and frequently visits friends in nearby Seattle- or, at least, he used to. While making a routine crossing, Feldmar was pulled aside for extra screening, which is carried out randomly at border crossings. While Feldmar's car was examined, border guards chatted him up, and on learning he was a pychologist, googled his name, and found a copy of a journal article Feldmar had written, entitled Entheogens and Psychotherapy, detailing his use of hallucinogenic drugs and their usefulness in psychotherapy. Feldmar soon found himself detained, fingerprinted by the FBI, and denied entry to the United States for "narcotic use." Because of the nature of his research, Feldmar is now banned from visiting his friends and family, and must pay a $3500 fee to aplly for a waiver any time he wishes to do so- a waiver which may not be granted. As the Tyee reports, drug policy advocate Ethan Nadlemann points out the ridiculous irony of the ban:
"Nobel Peace prize winners, some of the great scientists and writers in the world have experimented with LSD in their time. We know people are being pulled out of lines and racially profiled as part of the war against terrorism. But this is a different kind of travesty, banning someone because they used a substance in another country thirty years ago"
In all, this is an excellent article and deserves a read, as does Feldman's journal article.

America - the land of the free? - Whatever, it has become a standard joke unfortunatly. I’ll call for more research and less bureaucracy. Good informative article btw - enjoy and have fun! :)

I’m not surprised. The government is, one way or another, suppressing anyone who had/has/will do, or say, or even think anything that disagrees with present propaganda coming out of Washington DC.

This Dr. wasn’t even coming here professionally, he was making a social call on friends.

How paranoid will the people in and out of government get before someone realizes the lunacy of what the government is doing?

^^ Yeah, The founding fathers would have disaproved of America today. If they wanted to restrict drug use, they should have wrote it in the constitution.
