Intolerance Multiplied
Monday May 7, 2007
This is one of the saddest and most tragic stories involving religion I have seen in a very long time. If you've been visiting Alternative Religions for a while, you know about the Kurdish Yezidis, a tiny gnostic religious sect that has suffered enourmous persecution fromn their Islamic neighbors, who over the last thousand years have decimated their small community in Iraq. This recent tragedy, however, has everyone to blame. Seventeen year old Yezidi Doaa Aswad Dekhil fell in love with another Kurd, a Muslim, and converted to Islam in order to marry him. She returned to her village after being told her family had forgiven her, but instead, she was met by a mob led by her own family, who beat her to death while police and onlookers carrying video cameras [Warning: horrifying, graphic, and not work safe.] stood by and did nothing to help.
This crime against humanity was compounded when anonymous gunmen, in an apparent act of revenge, kidnapped a busload of mostly elderly Yezidi factory workers and executed them. Now, both Sunni Muslims and Yezidi students fear to leave their homes.

Wow.
Just, wow.
Just when I think that people cannot be any more vicious and cruel than they already are, something like this happens.
I truly do not understand how people can be so savage….and I didn’t even watch the video, I don’t think I could stand to, I’m just talking about the verbal description.
Scenes like this will continue until one generation finally “gets it” and teaches tolerance and cooperation to their children insteady of supremacy and hate.
Let us be that generation.
Please.
It’s not the children that need it taught to them- it’s their elders.
IMO, such acts are not only extremely intolerant of another religion, but they are extremely intolerant of the basic human rights of another person and outright evil (anything or anyone that is hurtful or harmful in effect). Consider the nature of the acts and the source of their belief, and remember: they will kill you too!
Thank goodness Islam is a religion of peace or the violence might really have gotten out of hand.
I heard that Sadam used the same trick on one of his own brothers—told him all was forgiven to come back home and then had a mob kill him in cold blood.
Evidently forgiveness means something else in their language. Just remember we are all on this planet to make a spiritual journey and learn things…some people will have a rude awakening when they think they are headed for heaven and find out about what goes around comes around in their next lifetime. People cannot continue to be evil without regrets, it hurts their own souls. They may find out that we really are connected and what we do to someone else, we have done to ourselves. Such a shame that many have closed their hearts to love.
