They Want the Stupid People to Themselves

Friday June 22, 2007
I don't know what else to make of the African Catholic Church's decision to lavish their attention on Francesca Zackey, the South African teenager who claims to have had visions of the Virgin Mary, and who has so far convinced at least four people to stare into the sun until they were blinded, all in a test of faith that was supposed to result in their own visions. It apparently takes three priests and in-depth interviewing to determine whteher or not the girl and her claims are bogus. Meanwhile, hundreds are still swarming to her home for 'healing' and sun-staring of their own.

Not tht the skeptics are terribly bright, either:

"Has this girl seen the Virgin Mary before? How did she know what she looks like?"

(1) Ave Maria Gratia Plena says:

The Church investigates such claims so it can then use its authority to stop people giving credence to nonsense. It cannot rule out such claims a priori since nothing is impossible for God. If He wants to cause the Virgin to appear then He can.

Every year dozens of people claim to see visions and the Church has great experience in dealing with such situations most of which are caused by mental instability.

Next year sees the 150th anniversary of the visions of St Bernadette of Lourdes. She had a tremendously difficult time persuading the Church to believe her. It takes more than just a claim to convince the Church that the Blessed Virgin has appeared to anyone.
