"Family Values" (Or, "Get the Pagan!")
Tuesday June 26, 2007
Maine Democrat Rita Morgan has a lot of nerve, apparently- not only is she open about being a pagan (gasp), she promotes Paganism to the children* of Pagan parents! The Maine Christian Civic League is apparently a little confused as to what constitutes Christian behavior, but they're just so darned concerned about Moran's involvement in "Maine's thriving underground pagan worship circles" that they're just compelled to publish every address and phone number tehy can find for the woman- presumably, so they can know where to direct their loving compassion and kindness? Somehow, I think not- and Pagans are the problem? From the comments generated on the site, it would seem the locals pretty much align themselves squarely with their Pagan citizen...good for them.
*Won't someone please think of the children?!?

I’m very impressed with Rita Moran. We need more politicians like her. As a Pagan parent myself, I am especially pleased to see that she strongly supports and promotes Pagan parenting. Therefore, it’s clearly evident to me that someone is thinking of the children, Ms. Emick.
Children growing up in Pagan households are generally loving, creative, well educated, respectful, honorable, and well adjusted despite the predjudices of mainstreasm religion.
There is freedom of religion in this country, of which I am very glad. It’s a shame that people like Rita Moran are being attacked for practicing her religion openly, which is our right!
I think that Democrat Rita Morgan should run for President of the U.S.
I was confused, then chagrined, now just completely amazed at the audacity of some so-called “Christians” who use religion as a cover for bigotry. What planet are these people from that they think they have a monopoly on the truth and can dictate it to others and use it to condemn, threaten and control? They think they own God and speak 100% for God. How dare they? This is not what freedom of religion in American is supposed to mean. I am a pagan and a member of a Christian church–granted it’s free thinking Unity, but we are accepting of any and all sincere spiritual paths–as for the denominations that use religion for bigotry and killing–we just avoid them.
It’s raining in the desert today, so on that note of optimism, I’d like to offer a positive opinion: Ms. Moran couldn’t have paid enough money to get advertizing like this! Unknowingly, that Christian-centric group has fully advertized this woman’s worship center — and I’ll bet the attendance increases. I’ll also bet that if Ms. Moran had tried to have her worship center listed in the newspaper’s Houses of Worship section, they would’ve said no; I’ll also bet that if any vandalism occurs, the police will be forced to press charges against this Christian “watchlist” as an instigating factor. Here’s hoping the latter doesn’t ever happen and that the townfolk have more sense than their supposed “watchdog.”
