Here We Go Again- "A Victory For Wicca"

Wednesday June 27, 2007
After ten years, one might think the windbags' blustering about the evils of Harry Potter might have died down a little, but it seems to only get louder and sillier with each new edition. Probably half of these spring from the minds of writers at "WorldNetDaily," which makes me wonder why they don't save a little cash and just keep reprinting the same article- if that's not what they're doing already. Today's hysteria takes the "Potter is secretly converting your kids to Wicca" tack; previous versions have found Potter readers to be interested in the supernatural and accused the books of teaching kindergarteners about human sacrifice.

This is not to say they're all bad- WND columnist Vox Day even defended the series, claiming it isn't so bad compared to say, secular sex ed, and one breathless movie review recounted "exciting" action scenes before declaring the moviemakers the enemies of god.

Still, there's always entertainment value in these things. Where else can you read "facts" such as "J.K. Rowling has publicly admitted that at least 30 percent of her novels is based on real occultism," or the "numerous similarities between the spells and magic used by Harry Potter and those used in the witchcraft of the Wiccan religion." Also hilarious are the references to Rowling's use of "real occultists" such as "Adalbert Waffling." What can you do but laugh?*

*Even funnier are bits in the book that even the WND couldn't repeat with a straight face, like the segments about the fallen angels who impersonate spirits of the dead, presumably for the young readers who eschew Pilgrim's Progress for Potter stories- apparently, the War in Heaven is taking place in the young adult section of Barnes & Noble.

There they go again - talking about satanism and Wicca as though they are one and the same. Ah, well. No one ever accused WND of over-researching their story material.

I’ve read books 1-6 and have Deathly Hallows preordered. I’m still looking for anything remotely related to what goes on in our Sacred Space.

The Truth is Sweet Jenny…
The conclusion I arrived at a long time ago is that Satanism is as seen by such People merely an abberration of Christianity in that for There to exist The Premise of “The Anti Christ” Then This Must Mean an Acceptance of The Opposing Principle of “The Christ” and that For Satan to be “The Eternal Rebel”
again God Therefore purported Followers of Satan referred to as “Satanists are in truth merely a debased form of Christians. Whereas Wicca is of itself a

Its interesting to see how crazy americans can get over religion but if they think Harry potter is unsuitable for their kids its their call to make and their fight to fight. Who am I to force it on them.

What always gets me is how this book actually teaches a Christian viewpoint - love is the ultimate awesomeness and all that. The characters celebrate the Christian holidays. The magic in it is just like a science.

What’s more, I don’t get why these books are so deflamed when kids’ books that actually ARE anti-Christian are not getting the same treatment. Take Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series. Okay, so in the first book it’s not so clear, aside from the Church being the enemy. But in the second and third books, they’re actually involved in a war against God, and the main characters - Lyra and that boy, Will - actually become the new Adam and Eve. I love that series so much, I want these nutbags to deflame it as well. After all, look what their attention has done for Harry Potter! I doubt the books would be as much of a sensation if not for their angry, idiotic tirades. The same can be said for The Wizard of Oz, because back when it was written it got the same kind of treatment.

How many wiccans killed Christans because of what they believed in? None
Christians and Chatholics want everyone to believe their religion is the religion you should believe in that’s why they want to shove it down your troat and preach to you all the time. If you don’t believe something then leave it alone and mind your business. I’m so sick of their self richousness everybody has a right to believe in what they want. I was Christian and I couldn’t take their lies and I was tired of there being so many hypocrites in the two said religions.
