Paying for Ignorance

Wednesday September 26, 2007
It seems that no amount of constitutional education will dissuade evangelists from their endless attempts to introduce creationism into American education. The most recent separation breach is a pretty serious one: a $100,000 earmark attached to a spending bill by a Louisiana Senator, funding the Louisiana Family Forum, so they can " develop a plan to promote better science education" in Louisiana schools. Trouble is, they aren't science educators. They're a partisan right-wing evangelical lobby group, and when they aren't busy promoting "covenant marriage" and and abstinence programs, they like to promote "better science education" by attaching silly addendums (PDF link) to textbooks, "challenging" evolution.

It seems that the world, especially the United States is on the verge of starting another dark ages. (The Christians plunged us into a long-lasting one when they burned the libraries of Alexandria.) All we reincarnated enlightened beings can do is hold the knowledge in ourselves and carry it from lifetime to lifetime for all mankind. I met a modern self-taught druid recently and he said his goal is to be ordained in ALL the different religions (not just denominations, but Judaism, Sufism, etc.) so that he can hold them in harmony within his own heart. Go for it. It’s our purpose on this planet, I think, if we are seekers and genuinely care for life and mankind (not to mention animals and plants and all nature.) Stick it out, craziness on planet Earth ebbs and flows. We have to be the steady ones. Rev. Sandy, Metaphysician and Druid.

I think instead of adding creationism as an alternative view, just toss out teaching evolution. That’s just a theory also. I see no discrepancy between Creation and Evolution. God created things to evole. DUH

(3) Pope Fay says:

Fundamentalists don’t care what the Constitution says! Hell, they don’t even really care what the Bible says, as long as they can find things in it (usually taken out of context) to support their interpretation of reality. The Bible is just another tool for them, they think it’s sacred only for that function. If it were the constitution instead of the bible, they’d find ways for the constitution - taken out of context - to justify their reality tunnels.

(4) Science teacher says:

Fact is, evolution shouldn’t be called a theory, it is, indeed, fact. Science is about teaching what we know, based on strong scientific evidence, and evolution fits the bill. Creationism and intelligent design are not science, and have no place in a science classroom… period. More science teachers should take a stand, no matter where they are, to teach this essential component of scientific knowledge, and refuse to teach the “story” of creationism. If you put creationism in my classroom, I’ll teach evolution in your church.

(5) David says:

In Genius, God took 6 days to bring about the Creation. How can it be logical that God would create anything else as a completed work? The Bible says even God evolved the Creation!

(6) Andie says:

Evolution is a theory- but when it comes to science, ‘theory’ and ‘hypothesis’ are two completely different things.

Remember: gravity is a theory, too.
