Halloween Hysteria Lives On

Tuesday October 16, 2007
The first of the annual moratoriums on black cat adoptions is official:

"like many shelters around the country, the Hillside SPCA, Pottsville, prohibits adoptions of black cats now to Nov. 2, fearing the animals could be mistreated in Halloween pranks or worse, be sacrificed in sadistic or occult rituals."
The really sad aspect of these bands is that the cards are stacked against black kitties already in the adoption department, so this sad superstitious nonsense means even less chance of adoption and more kitties are likely to be put to death by the state.

But wait, there's more: Samhain, god of the dead, makes an appearance. Hopefully, the folks at Hormel are trying to be funny...

Better safe than sorry. Some kids are into hurting animals for fun the way they vandalize cars and buildings at halloween (or any other time that strikes them.) Some people can be pretty thoughtless and cruel. I nearly paniced when my Coon cat Fluffy ran off at Halloween while we were staying at my mother in laws. I thought some bad kids might have sacrificed him. But he came strolling back the in a couple days as if it were no big deal he was gone. He was fixed and he NEVER left overnight like that. Guess he was curious and just wanted to celebrate whatever black cats celebrate on All Souls Day.
