Abraham Abulafia, a thirteenth century Jewish mystic most notable for transcribing Jewish oral Kabbalah into written form, making the information, which was previously very jealously guarded, widely available. Abulafia eschewed the study of the Tree of Life, believing it to resemble Paganism too closely.
