In some Gnostic cosmological
models, Aeons are
divine emanations from God, sent to redeem spirit from the material state.
They reside in the Pleroma,
or the world of spirit. In other models, aeons are the creations of the evil
demiurge, each a state of
existence successively grosser and denser and further removed from the pleroma.
In the former view, they are quite similar to the Amesha
Spentas or "bounteous
immortals" of Zoroastrianism.
