Agathodaemons,
Kakodaemons
In Greek mythology, agathodaemon was a deity represented as a collective of benevolent spirits inhabiting crops and fields. They were represented by serpents, baskets, and the cornucopia. The counterpart of the agathodemons were the kakodaemons, the evil spirits. These were nagging, meddling spirits who attached themselves to humans and caused them to sin. (In earlier times, daimon/daemon was a generic word for deity, and sometimes referred to the genius.) Metaphorically, the daimons were the higher and lower impulses. The similarity between the kakodaemon and Scientology's "body thetans" is probably not coincidental. Christian beliefs about demons is based on the daimon.
