In Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the Goddess of love and beauty. Known as Venus to the Romans, Aphrodite was closely related to the ancient Babylonian goddess Ishtar. One of her oldest legends tells of her birth from the sea-foam off the coast of Cypress, from the castrated genitals of Ouranos, the sky.
