Apollonius of Tyana was a first century neo-Pythagorean religious teacher and miracle worker, and a contemporary 'rival' of Jesus. Apollonius was an itinerant philosopher who traveled extensively with his disciples, a vegetarian mystic whose reputed miracles included raising the dead. Like Jesus later, Apollonius was often referred to as "The Nazarene."
Apollonius was later smeared as an evil magician by Christian Church fathers who were uncomfortable with the similarities between his reported miracles and those of Jesus.
