The legendary "God" of the
Knights Templar, Baphomet is described by Ritual Magician Eliphas
Levi as a symbolic intermingling of opposites.
Some believe the name derives from the Arabic Mahomet, wisdom, others
believe it is a Kabbalistic cipher for the Goddess Sophia.
Although there
are rumors, nobody really knows what the Templar Baphomet looked like. The popular
image of a grotesque goat-headed creature is Levi's interpretation, based on
hermaphroditic grotesques on Templar chapel decorations. Often mistakenly identified
