In Vodoun belief, Baron is the Loa of death, cemeteries, fertility, and the realm of the dead. He appears as a skeleton attired in black or purple top hat and tails, and carries a walking stick. His offerings include rum steeped in hot peppers. The first burial in a cemetery is dedicated to Baron Samedi, who is just one aspect of Baron.
Baron's aspects include Baron Cemetiere (cemetary), Baron la Croix (of the cross), and Baron Samedi ("saturday"). He is associated with the catholic St. Gerard. Baron is a Loa of the New World; he has no African counterpart.
Baron is of the family of Ghede (ancestors, the dead), and his wife is Maman Brigitte.
